    Not all items indexed

    Hello,

i've got a problem with my MOSS 2007 Search function:

i've got a list with about 550 items of content type "feature". I've created a search scope matching these, but it will only find 512 items. I did a lot of full crawls, i recreated the managed property "content type", but for this content type it will also find only 512 items...

Do you have any idea for this behaviour?

    Re: Not all items indexed

I have seen many occurances of search scope display numbers being "off".. but usually with larger numbers.

Were there any errors in the gatherer log?

Have you been able to determine which ones are missing from the index? Anything special about them, are they exact duplicates of other records. Were they created before a major update to the content type definition?

How are you determininig that there are indeed 550 items for that content type, did you filter by content type in the list and look at the count?

    Re: Not all items indexed

Thank for your reply. To answer some of your questions:

I found no errors in the gatherer (only warnings because of deleted items).

Until know i couldn't find out which ones could be missing - but there shouldn't be any exact duplicates. Also there hasn't been an update of this content type.

I know that there are about 550 items, because i can count them in MS Access (and also count them in the list) - and in this list the only allowed content type is "features".

But the number seems to be fixed, because i added some items the last days - and the sum in the scopes (and because of that in the search results) remains "512". Searching for contenttype:feature doesn't return alternative results.

Do you have any additional ideas why scope display numbers can be "off"?

    Re: Not all items indexed

There are only 3 reasons why this could happen in the order of likeliness:

    1. new crawls are not happening (not scheduled, exluded or failed) on the list and it is just not updating
    2. item level security is actually hiding the other 48 items
    3. scope compile are failing

    Re: Not all items indexed

    well,

    1. there are regularly incremental crawls and at least 1 full crawl daily - to solve this problem i initiated a lot more full crawls manually.

    2. Item level security of the missing items is not different from found items - at last there isn't any (obvious) difference at all (for i created all of them).

    3. how can i check this?

    Re: Not all items indexed

    1. In your crawl log do you see success entries for your list? You should be able to filter the log by your list path to see all the entries in the log. That should be telling in itself, so start there. Do you see 512 entries or 550

    2. ok

    3. you would see an error message in this case in the scope numbers so probably not the issue.

    Re: Not all items indexed

i did another full crawl and afterwards checked the crawl log.

for the path of this list it gets 559 sucesses (and 11 warnings, for deleted items). the count of the scope remains 512 (after updating).

do you have any experience if the search for (possibly) not indexed items or not "scoped" items is affected by this?
